CHESS FEVER

Set in Moscow during the International Chess Tournament of 1925, Vladimir Fogel (the Hero) and Anna Zemtsova (the Heroine) play an engaged couple who due to be married. However, caught up by the society-wide "chess fever", the Hero forgets about his marital obligations, irking his bride to be who he must ultimately try to win back.
This quirky Russian film uses footage from the actual International Chess Tournament of 1925, interspersed with the acted scenes in Vsevolod Pudovkin's directorial debut.
Debut performance: Friday 28th June 2019, Pilton Palais, Glastonbury Festival.
